Raising funds for Waldo's Guillain-Barré treatment

Hi. My family would like to raise funds for my brother. Waldo (32 years old) currently lives in South Africa and both my sister and I and our parents live overseas. For the moment he has no immediate family there to support him.

Over the weekend Waldo woke up with numbness and weakness spreading all over his body. He also experienced problems with his balance and co-ordination. He was then hospitalised and has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome. This is a rare and serious condition that affects the nerves. He is currently experiencing paralysis in his legs and needs to use a wheelchair, and has limited use of his hands.

Unfortunately my brother was retrenched from his work last year just before Christmas, and because of this doesn't have any health insurance.

Waldo used uses the last of his savings to pay for a week in hospital. He will need more funds in order to pay for the rest of his stay and the treatment required. And once he leaves the hospital he will need to go to a rehabilitation centre. At the moment the length of his stay in hospital is uncertain. He could still have a very long recovery ahead.

He was in the process of looking for a new job when this happened. We are hoping to raise enough funds to cover his medical bills and any other expenses until he is back on his feet.
