Raising Funds for Harlow

Tax deductible
Meet Harlow. My family and I have been fostering her through Bella Vita Rescue as of July 4th, 2020. She gave birth on July 6th to 9 puppies, only 5 survived. She is the sweetest girl and an amazing Mama, but has a lot of health issues and we need help with her upcoming vet visits, future surgeries, and to maintain funds for her special prescription diet.

Her story - She was found in the streets of Tijuana with maggots in her eye, pregnant, and emaciated. She lost her eye through what vets have confirmed as blunt force trauma to the side of her head. Who knows what she has gone through or the pain she endured.

Taking care of Harlow these past few weeks, we noticed how she wasn't looking well. After a vet visit on August 4th, we received grim news. She had a bad infection in her uterus, with it being double its normal size. She had severe mastitis with puss coming out of some of her breasts. Her kidneys were in very bad condition. Those were some of the internal things that we were not aware of. We did know that her teeth were in horrible condition, infected as well and would need future dental work. Many are severely chipped and we believe it could be from eating rocks. The vets confirmed from an x-ray that Harlow has granules of rocks in her intestines, probably resorting to eating that when she had no other options. Her eye needs to have surgery to patch it up correctly as well. Her infections were so bad that a vet suggested that euthanasia would be the best course of action since she is an older dog, only around 8 years old though and has many years to look forward to! Bella Vita couldn't take that as the final answer, especially after all that she had been through. It couldn't end that way. So after a second opinion, she started antibiotics and fluids that week, August 6th. She was hospitalized for 3 days and is now taking antibiotics along with a special prescription diet for her kidneys.

She will continue to go to the vet every two weeks to check her kidneys and infections. She will then go monthly. Eventually, when all of her infections are gone and she is in better health, she will need her dental and eye surgeries as well. She has a long road ahead but has a lot of support and love from my family and various volunteers and donors - Harlow's Heroes!

Her 5 beautiful puppies were compromised as well. They had a severe case of worms and could have started to get sick from feeding on Harlow's milk. After five days of deworming medication, they were still expelling live worms from both ends of their little bodies. They will be going to the vet to get more medication as well. Unfortunately, the best choice for all was to keep them separate for a while until Harlow's milk dries up. They are currently with a new amazing foster for a few weeks, but we cannot wait for Harlow to be reunited with her little ones once she is feeling better. Her puppies are just the sweetest and all are so unique in looks and personalities. Not only will these funds be used for Harlow, but also for her puppies' medications, vaccinations, and surgeries to spay/neuter before they become available for adoption.

We are raising money to benefit Bella Vita Rescue, and any donation will help Harlow and her five with their medical bills and a prescription food for her kidneys. Thanks in advance for your contribution. Her life will completely change from now on and her puppies' lives will be full of love. Thank you and please share!
