Raising funds for 3 cancer charities

Sawbo Sessions was an event set up by Maddy Kelly in 2017 to raise money for the charities that helped her so much as she went through gruelling treatment for stage 4 rectal cancer with inoperable liver metastases. Maddy loved live music. A regular Standon Calling goer, the festival inspired her to set up this event - showcasing local bands.

She went through 8 years of treatment until she sadly passed away in May 2022. During this time she continued to put on this event and raised amazing amounts of money for three charities: Helen Rollason, Hummingbird Cancer Support Group and Cancer Research UK.

Last year another local mum, Dawn Gibson, also fighting cancer joined Maddy in organising Sawbo Sessions. Dawn also sadly lost her life in June 2022.

Maddy and Dawn’s family and friends have pledged to keep the event going and continue to raise money for the charities that meant so much and helped so much.

4 local bands: the Ghias and Cockburn & Ballintine, plus two new exciting bands from young local talent: SLAG and Penguin will be playing. Dawns daughter and husband are amongst the bands.

There will be a bar and fundraising on the night from local businesses who have rallied round to support the event, many of whom knew Dawn and Maddy personally.
