Raise to complete my College Tuition

Hello!

My name is Kat Martinez Ponce. Currently, I am in my third year at Cornell College as a first generation Chicana. I am the junior captain of the cheerleading team and vice president of the Latino Club at my school. My goal is to become a professional mental health worker after completing my degree in Applied Psychology. Growing up in a Hispanic community, I saw how much stigma there is against mental health, and I hope that I can diminish those stigmas and provide more services to our communities. Despite financial aid, scholarships and loans, my family did not have enough funds to complete my college tuition this year. The only person who helps pay for school is my mother who is a single parent. I also work but that does not cover the cost. As a side job, we both sell food like corn and mangos to make some extra money. Hopefully, with your help, you will be able to relieve my mom and I of some of the burdens we face. It is difficult to ask for help because I know how fortunate I am to even have the opportunity to attend college. However, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and hope to give back to my mom and my community. Thank you so much.

Mi nombre es Kat Martínez Ponce. Actualmente, estoy en mi tercer año en Cornell College como chicana de primera generación. Soy la capitana junior del equipo de porristas y vicepresidenta del Club Latino de mi escuela. Mi objetivo es convertirme en un trabajador profesional de la salud mental después de completar mi licenciatura en Psicología Aplicada. Al crecer en una comunidad hispana, vi cuánto estigma hay contra la salud mental y espero poder disminuir esos estigmas y brindar más servicios a nuestras comunidades. A pesar de la ayuda financiera, las becas y los préstamos, mi familia no tenía suficientes fondos para completar mi matrícula universitaria este año. La única persona que ayuda a pagar la escuela es mi madre, que es madre soltera. También trabajo pero eso no cubre el costo. Como trabajo adicional, ambos vendemos comida para ganar algo de dinero extra. Con suerte, con su ayuda, podrá aliviar a mi madre y a mí de algunas de las cargas que enfrentamos. Es difícil pedir ayuda porque sé lo afortunado que soy de tener la oportunidad de asistir a la universidad. Sin embargo, estoy extremadamente agradecido por esta oportunidad y espero retribuir a mi madre y mi comunidad. Muchas gracias.
