“Bring me sunshine, in your smile – Bring me laughter, all the while”

Those lyrics always brighten my day – and I hope that what I am about to say brings sunshine, a smile, and a little laughter into your day!

After the demise of UDJ – I have had many offers to join existing, and new, stations with my show – none of which have excited me.

I have recently joined forces with Mike Knight, Trevor Lazaro, and Carl Humphries (all ex UDJ team guys) to set up a brand new internet radio station. We have been working quietly in the background to see if what we plan is feasible. It is!

As we decided late in the day to proceed with our station - some of the UDJs had already committed to 365 and Epic. We wish our UDJ brethren well with those new stations, we will remain friends! – Thankfully many ex UDJs are more than happy to give our new venture a shot. We have had positive feedback from UDJs who have decided not to go to 365 or Epic - we also have positive replies from some DJs who had worked with UDJ a while back who will make a welcome return. We are confident that we can piece together an excellent team to carry forward the essence of UDJ.

We are in the early set up stages – we are in no rush – we want to get this all fully sorted before we go to air at the end of August – yes – I know – that is a frustratingly long time away! – but – we need that time to get everything in place to bring you the kind of programs you have grown to expect. We will follow the same core values that Tony Prince endowed on UDJ – great DJs with freedom to pick great music – DJs that have had a wealth of experience. There will also be DJs that are fledgling with little experience – and sometimes – none at all – we are keen to give new DJs a break if they have a spark of talent.

Asking for donations via GoFundMe is alien to the way radio normally works, and we know many of you already donated to UDJ – but this is not UDJ - This is a brand new station facing a new era with new commercial challenges – Moving forward, we will aim to help pay the bills by selling spots, taking sponsors, having barter programs, and indeed by doing further bi-annual appeals. Those future appeals will be used to partly fund the running costs – and – for the first time – to pay the DJs! – The plan is to tot up the number of hours each DJ does on air – and distribute the “pot of money” according to hours clocked up. It will not be a fortune – but it will be welcome. This has the added bonus that all the DJs have a vested interest in doing the best shows they humanly can - because if you love the shows they produce - and are willing to help fund the station - they get paid for the first time! A win-win situation....

So - there we have it - this June 2021 appeal is to help kick start our new station. The amount we raise will determine how well we can do this - whatever you can spare, big or small, will be very very welcome.
