50 cents of every dollar donated will go to our staff. This is an opportunity to help our staff make ends meet, as well as help us rebuild.
We love downtown Oakland. We believe in it.
It's why we opened Radio Bar here 20 years ago, when tumbleweeds still blew through the streets. We wanted to create a community space, a fun spot, a place where friends could gather to celebrate their highs, forget their lows.
We thought great staff, cheap drinks and good music might help.
Over the years we've provided space for local jewelry makers, fashion designers, political activists, painters, and others to display and sell their wares. We're proud that we've become part of the fabric of downtown Oakland.
But like everyone else, we were hit hard by the pandemic - and are doing everything we can to get loans and funding to tide us over - but on Friday night, May 29, during the George Floyd protests, we were broken into and looted.
We fully support the protests and have been encouraged by the fact that every state in the union has seen voices rise to demand justice. It feels like we may be on the cusp of lasting systemic change, and we would like - in our own small way - to be a part of that, to continue supporting the local community.
But to do that we need your help.
We sustained over $25,000 in damage and stolen goods, and our insurance will not cover us.
We've invested in downtown, and now we are asking you to invest in us.
Our 20th anniversary is this year: November 11, 2020. We'd like you to come celebrate that milestone with us. But we need your help to get there.
