RAD RESCUE MISSION: LEBANON 2021

Donation protected
Between the COVID outbreak and the explosion back in August that shook the world, an increase of over 40% of dogs were left on the streets of Beirut to fend for themselves. Thousands of dogs still roam the streets with no place to go and unthinkable dangers to face.

6 months later, things are still not improving. The situation in Beirut continues to decline as the country fights to try to restore what once was for its citizens.

Animals, however, are still not getting the help they deserve. 40 000 dogs still roam the streets with the very likely possibility that they will not make it through the week.

Lebanon has a history of shooting stray dogs as its preferred method for controlling the animal population rather than supporting neuter/spay initiatives. Violence towards these animals has been born from fear and a lack of understanding of domesticated animals and that fear has over time turned to hatred and violence. Dogs are at risk of getting shot in the face, being hit by or run over by cars, tied and dragged alive by vehicles for giggles and/or of eating something that will mean their demise by people who have no value for animal welfare.

Organizations like BETA LEBANON are doing the sensational work of keeping as many dogs that they can safe from harm, but they are overwhelmed. They are at capacity. And now, they are facing eviction. 900+ dogs, 200+ cats, horses, donkeys and monkeys could end up back on the streets to face, yet again, these dangers.

Lebanon has a near-zero percent adoption rate. Not only that, the economic crisis that the country is facing has left many families with no choice but to move and leave their pets behind.

Our hearts are breaking for them.

We are announcing today that two of our team members are going back to Beirut for a 3rd time to try to bring back as many dogs as our funds will allow us.

We can’t sit back and just watch the amazing people at BETA LEBANON deal with the unforeseen circumstances they were dealt, alone.

We can’t sit back and just watch the amazing dogs that were left behind by no fault of their own live and die alone without the chance to know unconditional love with a loving family.

Last time we were in Beirut, we were able to rehome 21 dogs into loving homes in Canada. Dogs that were shot, hit by cars and dragged for miles, dumped on the highway to get hit, attacked by wild animals, and forgotten in fields with ropes around their necks for months.

Can we bring back more?

This time around, we will be mainly bringing back dogs that survived the blast at the port. Dogs that have no other place to go. We are also trying to bring back a few that have been at the shelter for YEARS and are not thriving as they are either too anxious or uncomfortable in a space with so many other dogs.

We need to give them a second chance at a forever home.

Help us to alleviate the load that BETA LEBANON faces everyday by donating whatever you can.

We need to help.

These dogs are facing a really bad future and we need to try to help any way we can. Let’s give them the life that they deserve and that we know we can give them back here in Canada with wonderful families.

Donate Today. We can’t do this without you.

RAD is a non-profit rescue organization based in Montreal and Vancouver.  We rescue and rehabilitate abused, forgotten and neglected dogs. With love, patience and consistent work, we help them transition from sad to happy, neglected to loved and from desperate to hopeful. We show each dog we rescue that they no longer need to be afraid and are now safe. We educate, collaborate, communicate and advocate about the importance of animal rescue and welfare.

Do Good.  Be RAD.

Sincerely,

Team RAD
