Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5K - Georgia & Luke

We will be completing the Race for Life pretty muddy 5K obstacle course on Saturday 15th July 2023 to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Unfortunately Cancer is something that has affected both of us, Georgia's dad lost the battle with Bowel Cancer at the age of 51 and Luke's Mum who battled Stage 4 breast Cancer is amazingly here today to tell her story. We have made the decision to participate in the Cancer Research UK run due to deeply personal and emotional reasons, and we understand how crucial it is to push for continued research and support toward finding a cure. Witnessing the devastating effects of this disease on our loved ones has left a deep sense of empathy and determination within us.

Georgia's dad was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer at the age of 51, and received Chemotherapy treatment once a week for several months. The side affects made him bed bound 5 days of the week. He also underwent surgery to have a Colostomy Bag fitted due to his bowel perforating from the Cancer. Unfortunately the Chemotherapy treatment was unsuccessful, and the Cancer had spread all over his body. Georgia's Dad could no longer be treated and became terminally ill, he was told he had 3 months left to live before the Cancer won. As Georgia's family knew that her Dad wasn't going to make it to Christmas, they celebrated Christmas early in September one last time together as a family before he passed away in October at the age of 52. Sadly, Georgia's Dad left his wife and 8 children behind.

Luke's mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast Cancer and had Chemotherapy as well as a double Mastectomy and a preventative hysterectomy. Lukes entire family all pulled together during this incredibly difficult time to help her and aid her recovery in any way that they could. Amazingly the Chemotherapy treatment worked and beat the cancer. Joanne is now Cancer free and shares her story with others to spread awareness and help others where she can.

Many of their family and friends have either been affected by Cancer themselves, or someone they know has. This week, one of Georgia's colleagues received the devastating news that his wife has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Cancer. After attending numerous appointments and speaking to multiple Cancer consultants, she will be starting Chemotherapy treatment next month alongside having surgery. We wish her the best of luck with her treatment and hope she makes a full recovery.

By dedicating myself to this cause, we hope to honour the memory of Georgia's father and make a contribution toward a future where no one has to lose a loved one to cancer. Working together, with continued funding for innovative research and improved treatments, finding a cure for cancer can be achieved. We are resolute in our desire to make a positive impact and believe deeply in the power of hope and human spirit. Participating in this run is not just about raising funds and awareness but also about showing support and solidarity to those who are struggling with cancer.

We would be incredibly grateful if you could please make a donation to support us on our Race for Life Event. Any donation, no matter how big or small is appreciated.
