My mother, Suzanne Stretch has been diagnosed with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma AKA stomach cancer at the age of 57.
We have been trying to get answers as to her stomach pain for almost a year. Multiple ER visits, blood work, massive weight loss, severe stomach pain, vomiting all day and PCP appointments and they couldn’t pinpoint what the problem was. On August 1 we received the bad news after finally getting a biopsy done. From what we are being told this cancer is a sneaky bastard, sliding under the radar and is usually found in advanced stages. But we are far from giving up hope as our battle together as a family has just begun! And my mama dukes is one tough chick!
Now the next next battle begins with level of care due to health insurance. Imagine NOT being able to go to a top hospital that specializes in YOUR cancer because of your health insurance....oh she can go there....but has to pay 40% of all charges! Fortyfreakingpercent! That’s what paying 400 a month for health insurance gets you. A high deductible and and even higher coinsurance. To top it off the doctors that are in her network a handful of them, still have a high deductible BUT they aren’t on the radar for cancer treatment. Drs I have never even heard their names before and working in the healthcare industry I know a lot of Drs names! It’s almost like a slap in the face. Hey you, you have limited income, have crappy insurance and because of this you can only see crappy doctors. Now I’m not saying this to be mean. But everyone should be able to get the highest level of care. See the best doctors without having to be worried about money and how to get that money.
I told my mama I was doing this and said absolutely not. It’s embarassing. I said it’s not your fault you have cancer and top doctors are out of your network and only peon doctors are participating for you. How wrong is that!
So so here we are. Sucking up pride and riding on hope, faith and prayers.
If you know my mom you know she is a good person. She would give you the shirt off her back. She is an animal lover, lover of the elderly, retired bus driver of over 25 years, a Mommom and a mom to 3 adult children and 1 surprise late in life 17 year old boy. She is the person that has pulled over to help people change tires, pulled over to help during car accidents, stepped in to stop a woman from being beat up at a wawa (all 5”2 110lbs of her). She is the person who helps turtles cross the road, takes in strays of any kind. She is the person that will see an old person walking slowly to their car and will put away their groceries. She is all this and so so much more.
I understan everyone has had their problems. If you cannot donate, I would appreciate a share and a prayer.
