Jada's Journey

Donation protected
Our beautiful Jada is now 10 years old. Jada was born to two full bred pits in Scranton PA. She was much smaller and delicate than her siblings and it was obvious she was in poor health. At two weeks old, nature took hold and her mom refused to nurse her or allow her to socialize with her siblings. That is when the love of her life stepped up. Her human Daddy, Allen, saved her from certain death; hand feeding this tiny frail puppy against all odds. When she was 6 months old, Allen attempted to have Jada fixed but the veterinarians were thwarted. Jada was unable to be sufficiently anesthetized as there were no endotracheal tubes small enough to insert in her larynx - not even ones used on a new born kitten. Despite all of her continuing health challenges, Jada flourished into a spirited yet sweet dog. In 2013, our little 30lb Jada met her BFF, another rescue, a 100lb 12 year old lab/pit mix named Liberty. The two grew inseparable.  Now part of a bonded family with Tom & Allen, life became what it should for every well-loved furry friend.  Small masses were discovered on Jada's stomach in 2016. Though determined to be non-cancerous and removed, another attempt to have her spade, this time at a state of the art animal hospital,  failed for the same larynx issue. In 2017, Jada had to say goodbye to her BFF as Liberty went to the Rainbow Bridge. Jada has been instrumental in helping her family heal during this devastating loss. At her annual check-up in December, a routine senior blood panel test uncovered that Jada was in the early stages of pyometra, a deadly bacterial infection in the uterus. Jada's only chance of survival was full hysterectomy. Doctors at a prestigious veterinary hospital in Philadelphia, one of only a few hospitals with the necessary state of the art medical equipment, were optimistic of a successful surgery based on Jada's otherwise good health.  Jada's family drove her to Philadelphia from Scranton on Sunday December 10th and surgery was performed later that evening. Jada has been in ICU at the hospital since. The doctors continue to be optimistic of her outcome but her health challenges from birth, including her malformed larynx, continue to be a challenge. It now appears that Jada will need a permanent tracheostomy in order to live a full life in the future. Jada's medical bills are approaching $20,000. Jada came into our lives at a time when pet insurance was not an option. We consider Jada our family. As many of you understand, no price is too great to pay to save the ones we love. If you would like to contribute to our fund to help defray Jada's medical cost, your donations will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to share!
