Sahara Desert Trek

Tax deductible
On the 5th – 10th of November I will be trekking across the Sahara to raise money for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. This is not just because this is an amazing charity but it also holds an extremely special place in my heart. The 28th October 2018, was possibly the worst day of my life… My dad got into a serious motorcycle accident – he was hit by a swinging gate which caused a large amount of internal bleeding and damage to his lower abdomen. He collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Without the air ambulance, my dad wouldn’t be alive today. A person I cherish more than the world, and has taught me so much and brought me up to be the person I am today. The air ambulance was able to take him to the Major Trauma Unit at Addenbrookes hospital, which was the only place that could provide the emergency operation he needed.

Unfortunately, a normal ambulance would only be able to take him to the nearest hospital, which couldn’t have provided these services, resulting in an extremely slim chance of him making it. My mum and I were told he had a 50% chance of making it through, after having several strokes in the operating room, a large amount of blood loss and half his bowl having to be removed due to the damage of the gate. Thankfully he pulled through and made a great recovery.

To put it frankly without the air ambulance my dad wouldn’t be alive, I probably wouldn’t be doing this walk, but he is and I want to raise every penny possible to thank the air ambulance for saving his life. They are a group of amazing people who put so much into helping others, a trait my dad possesses and has always taught me to help other people.

So please make a donation, it’s a once in a lifetime experience. To quote Tesco ‘every little helps’ because it does, anything from a penny to £100 can help. The air ambulance receives no government funding and receives all its funding from charity work, so we need to work together to help it keep going. To help them save other people’s lives much like my dad’s.

More information about Essex & Herts Air Ambulance: Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, unlike NHS emergency services, is a Charity. Our aim is to save lives, reduce or prevent disability, or suffering from critical illness and injury, by delivering a first-class pre-hospital emergency medical service to the people of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
