My grandfather (Pappa) was a huge inspiration to me growing up. Never having a father of my own, (was born from a rape), he was a father to me. Never once did he look at me differently. Never once did he discourage me from being the best I could be, due to the way I was brought into this world. He did the complete opposite! He taught me to grow a garden, teaching me patience and care. Taught me to work hard and be useful with my hands.
Never once did I hear him complain about having to raise his six children. He would always tell me stories of how he worked the gravel pit to provide for his family, making a mere $1.50 for his hard work. I always seen him as Fred Flintstone with his job. There is so much good about him that is hard to contain into a small box.
Through the years he watched me grow and taught me the inportance of family values and loving your family. I carry those values with me everyday with my children in rememberance of him. He has had many battles of health issues. His last one wasn't so successful. He was diagnosed with ALS, dementia, and had cancer in his blood.
To watch someone you love, and know your whole life succumb to such a horrible mixture of diseases, is horrible. From walking around normally, to seeing him wheelchair bound in a few months was hard to watch. After his passing, it has hit me very hard. Harder so on my Nanna, his wife.
The funeral costs of cremating him came to $4000. My grandmother has no help in paying this. She only gets 800 a month, 700 of that goes for her rent. She is left only 100 for groceries. Which everyone knows isn't anything. Her monthly fees for the services for my grandfather is $700 a month. This doesn't include the fees she needs for transportation to get around. Her laundry, her tv, or anything else.
I'm just trying to get some money together for her to bring my grandfather home. Until his bill is paid, he has to remain at the funeral home. To me, this isn't fair. For someone who worked so hard in his life to provide day in and day out for his family, to be left ALONE in a funeral home. It's unacceptable. If I had the funds myself, I would cover the whole bill. Sadly, I too struggle with funds.
I do not like to ask for help, but I do not want to see the stress build up on my grandmother. I don't want to loose her as well. So if you could find it in your hearts to donate even $20, it would make the world for me and her. I am asking for $1000 to be realistic, I hope I can achieve this goal, or surpass it would be nice. But I don't have much hope in these dark times.
