English Trip

Hey everyone!

As some of you already know I have recently decided to join Youth With A Mission in Colorado Springs. I will be doing the Discipleship Training School or (DTS), which consists of 3 months of schooling that prepares you to work and serve overseas. After the initial 3 months I will spend 10 weeks somewhere in Asia, Africa or the Middle East.

YWAM is a nonprofit organization that focuses on reaching some of the poorest and least reached people in the world. The places that teams are taken to, are home to 4.8 million people. 8 out of 10 of these people are considered the poorest of poor. Through YWAM, we will be able to not only teach English and serve local communities. But also, create sustainable businesses that have the ability to change age old traditions, and bring hope to generations to come.

An example of these kinds of businesses, is Goats for Girls in Nepal. Tragically in Nepal, many families that are in lower socioeconomic situations have to sell their daughters into prostitution in order to survive. It is a tradition within certain villages that has spanned hundreds of years. Goats For Girls, gives goats to these local families, allowing them to teach their daughters how to care for these animals which in turn generates income. The girls will raise the goats and then sell them, and the cycle continues while breeding the goats as well. Generating income allows these women to sustain their families and generate a sustainable business model for the future. This allows the young women to continue their own education. Allowing them to continue growing and learning, ultimately gives them the opportunity to change their economic reality. This is the first generation of young women in these villages who have not had to use prostitution as the means to provide for their families. This is life altering in a place where women have no other choice.

To have grown up in Seattle as a young woman has made me very fortunate. Recently I've been able to see that, and after saving for a couple years I've found that serving others has become heavy on my heart. I think of these girls in Nepal, Cambodia, Africa, and many other poverty stricken communities. I think of how easily I could've been born to the same reality. They deserve the same opportunity as I have, yet they don't have it. Their circumstances, are piled up against them.
To empower these young women, to give them real and true hope in the form of these life changing businesses, is what I find so important. Not only will I be able to give and teach, but I fully believe helping one child, will create a domino affect, allowing for hope they so desperately need and deserve.

Children from 5-14 in these places are the most at risk for exploitation. Their parents have to worry for their safety, health, and providing an income. Our mission is to ease that burden. To make sure these children are happy, healthy and safe. While providing further learning and growth.

Ultimately I made this gofundme because I still do not have enough money to cover all the costs of outreach and lecture phase. If you feel a desire to give after reading this it would be much appreciated. I know you'd be there with me, changing the reality of these poverty stricken places.
I understand not everyone can give, so I will also ask for prayers during this time.

Thanks!
