This is for my dear friend's mom, so it is written in her perspective.
ENGLISH
This is our mom. Her name is Maria Odilia Nunes De Azevedo, and she is 57 years old. She and my dad are raising a family of three kids and she has a one-year-old granddaughter that she desperately wishes to see grow-up. My mom, Odilia, is everything to my family; she holds us together by being the happy, warm, funny, feisty person she is.
Four years ago, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, she has undergone 19 sessions of radiotherapies with continuous pill treatment that was supposed to last five years; however, her prescription was canceled after a doctor's appointment where they diagnosed my mom with metastasis (cancer cells were found in various locations of her body including her various locations on her spine and her hip). She had been suffering from severe back pain for a couple of months prior to the visit; however, but when the doctor said she had cancer again instead of some sort of muscle issue, we were distraught. Since her diagnosis back in February of 2020, my mom's back pain has increased to the point of having to use a cane just to stand, and she has lost a significant amount of weight due to the treatment's effect on her body.
My mom needs 10 sessions of radiotherapy on her spine and her right hip as well as 8 sessions of chemotherapy along with clinical laboratory evaluations and radiology every 21 days.
The doctor told us that with proper treatment, she is unlikely to be terminal since her organs have not yet been affected. However, we don't know how long it may take for cancer to spread, so we are desperate to get these treatments done as soon as possible so that my mom has a better chance of living. Unfortunately, the cost of these treatments is very expensive and with the political problems going on in our country along with the global pandemic that is happening, it is almost impossible to get the funds necessary to save my mom. So I am pleading for your help and collaboration in order to help pay for the expenses and guarantee treatment and recovery of our mom.
