"The Spark" IoM Depression Support Miniseries

Donation protected
"The Spark" - an Isle of Man based depression support miniseries.

What's the documentary all about?

This will be a miniseries which will be made available on Facebook and YouTube. It is being filmed by Dark Avenue Film and is being partially funded by the IoM Arts Council, to whom I am very grateful.

It will have episodes about the various types of therapy that are available to IoM residents, including DBT, art therapy, sports, medication, life coaching and much more.

There will be interviews with people from all walks of life, led by James Davis.

James and I will also be discussing what techniques and strategies I use to get me through depression and, as I have tried each therapy that will be discussed, I will provide honest feedback on how each have helped me.

I think it's important for everyone to see and hear from those who have experience in supporting those with depression, as well as those who have suffered with it themselves.  The aim is to help the people suffering with depression not to feel so isolated and alone.

Who are you and why are you doing this?

My name is Jenny, I'm 29 years old, and I've suffered with severe depression for several years.

Last year, I was having severe depressive episodes for 8 or 9 days, then having a day or so when I felt 'okay', only to go back into another week of depression.

After trying various different types of therapy and my own techniques, I have not had a depressive episode since January 2020.

I want to help other people achieve similar goals.

Why do you need the money?

The miniseries is being partially funded by the Isle of Man Arts Council, to whom I am very grateful, but I need your help to fund the rest of the project.

I need to raise this money in order to fund the filming, editing and music of this miniseries.

Myself, James Davis and all interviewees will not be taking any of the funding.

Could you help me get this project up and running? Any contribution would be gratefully received.

I have faith in this project, and I believe that it may help someone. The strategies included in this series won't cure someone overnight, but with determination, perseverance and the right support, we can reduce the risk of suicide drastically. If I can help one person, all of my experiences will have been worth it.
