AFTER the CALL is a project being developed by the East Baton Rouge Paramedic Association, primarily focused on the mental & emotional effects many calls leave permanently embedded in the minds of local First Responders.
For years this has been ignored, buried and masked by First Responder's across the country. While the Pre-hospital Emergency Medical industry has advanced the profession by increasing educational requirements, clinical and technical skills; little attention has been paid to the emotional effects emergency medical technicians face every single day. First Responders often bring this horrific emotional damage home and over the course of time can have profound effects on their mental & physical health as well as their personal relationships. Results can lead to failed marriages, destruction of families, alienation, leaving the profession and other long-term side effects, even suicide.
No more! We cannot continue this! The East Baton Rouge Parish Paramedic Association is in search of finding help so that we can continue to always give 100% when we answer the calls for help. We will soon begin interviewing candidates for our very first canine companion, who will serve as an emotional support dog for the members of the EBRP Paramedic Association and other local First Responders. But we need your help...
We need funding for fencing, training, food, medical care and equipment modifications for the dog before we can move forward. We want to ensure that our ESD (Emotional Support Dog) is provided a safe working environment and a safe place to decompress, rest and relax after a long day/night of work, taking care of us.
