Puerto Rico Service Project

Dear friends and family:
I am excited to have the opportunity for a service trip to Puerto Rico this June 12th-19th. The focus of this program is to lend a hand to our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico after the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. I will be living and working in a small community outside San Juan where our group will provide much-needed help without stressing the island's resources. For our service work, we will be partnering with a Puerto Rican non-profit on a grassroots project they have developed with special care for sustainability. We will be planting grasses to help stabilize the coffee growing land from landslides, which destroyed this year's coffee harvest after the land was weakened by the hurricane. We are hoping to work over 30 hours of service while positively engaging with our host community. We will also take some time to explore San Juan and learn more about its history and relationship with the United States. This service project will be done in partnership with Walking Tree whose mission is to inspire the next generation to become global leaders by taking an active interest in the world around them. I am asking for your help in trying to raise the funds necessary for my trip to Puerto Rico. Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated because it is one step closer to allowing me to give back and help others who are not as fortunate.
