I have created this fund for my wonderful partner, Allan Bond. Allan is a very private individual who is not prone to reaching out for help, even in dire situations such as the one he currently finds himself in. I am reaching out on his behalf in the hopes that we can alleviate the financial stress he has endured thus far, and will continue to endure for months to come, so that he can concentrate on beating cancer.
Allan's cancer journey began in September 2015 when he was diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer. The news was completely unexpected and devastating - as anyone who has been touched by cancer can surely understand. Living in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Allan had to relocate to Edmonton, Alberta in order to receive aggressive radiation and chemo treatment for 6 weeks, as treatment was not available to him in our hometown. It has been a tough journey of several months of recovery, but Allan's battle is still far from over. He has recently been informed that the cancer has spread to his prostate and bladder, and he is scheduled for surgery in March 2016 to have these additional organs removed. The recovery from this difficult surgery takes 2-3 months, after which he will be put back on even stronger chemo medication for 4 months. We were crushed to discover that Allan has been denied long-term disability benefits through his employer, and his medical benefits have recently been cut off as well. If he applies for CCP long-term disability, it will take a minimum of 4-6 months for him to receive those benefits - if he is even approved.
For those of you that know Allan and I, you know that he was my first love - I have known him since my high school days. We have been lucky enough to recently find each other again. This is the man I love and whom I plan to grow old with. I refuse to let cancer take him away from me.
As we now find ourselves out of options, we are reaching out to our friends, family, and anyone who is willing to help Allan beat his battle with cancer. All money raised will help cover day to day living expenses, medical costs, and any associated costs that this cancer has brought on. To anyone who chooses to support him by making a contribution - I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We will never forget your generosity in this time of need.
