School for all children, those in the Atlas too !

Donation protected
Preparing for the start of the school year can be exciting for both the parents and the children in Europe; Reuniting with friends after a great summer holiday, deciding on the backpack color and shopping for brand new school supplies.

This moment of the year for the children of Ait Tamjout in the Atlas mountains has a different vibe. The question that preoccupies their minds is ;
Will I be able to continue my education this year?

Some fact numbers about the village

  • 509 (Female - 53.24%) is the number of students in primary school (from 1st to 6th grade)
  • 61% is the rate of the illiteracy
  • 25% of men and only 5% of women have a job
  • 75% of the girls never make it to middle school.
  • 0 is the number of middle schools in the village; some children should walk up to 24km to reach the closest one.
The graph below clearly shows the trend of school drop-off at the stage of moving from primary to middle school due to schools shortage:

We chose to help this village after comparing data* from several towns, and we had field visits ourselves to understand the challenge of the parents and children in person. During one of these visits, we met with Hafsa and her father, Mustafa.

Hafsa is a six-year-old girl living in the village of Ait Tamjout in the region of Azilal in Morocco. She is now in primary school. Her dream is to become a doctor. She would love a different destiny than the other girls in her village. If they are lucky enough, they could attend primary school, but their chances to continue their studies further than that are very limited. If Hafsa wants to continue her education, she must walk 16km to get to the closest middle school. In winter, it will be dark when school is out, and Hafsa has to return home walking by herself, with all the risks that come with it. This wouldn’t be an option, said Mustafa. Therefore, like the other girls in the village, Hafsa's destiny is to drop out of school and help her mother with household chores. She will probably marry at a very young age and never become a doctor.

Hafsa showing me with a lot of excitement how to write the numbers she learned at school

Our mission

Seeds of Success is an NGO under the law 1901. We are young international professionals who believe that progress starts with good education and that no child should be left behind. Our goal is to help underprivileged children in developing countries access school; This will give them the chance to build a bright future and escape poverty.

How is your donation going to be used?

It will be used in two folds:
  • Finance transportation (Gaz & salary of the conductors) so the children will have a bus that will take them from the village to the middle school. The parents won't have to pay for anything.
  • Give scholarships to students allowing them to buy necessary school supplies; we will also provide an excellence scholarship to reward the students with good grades.

Providing transport & scholarships is the first step to helping Ait Tamjout children; we are working on developing a more sustainable approach for the longer term.

How are we tracking impact?

We are working closely with the parents association of the village;
money will be transferred directly to them to finance the fees on a monthly basis and distribute scholarships to children; in exchange, they will provide proof of the children's attendance at school and their grades.

We will also do field visits regularly to collect feedback from children & parents.

We will regularly assess the education rate data in the village to see how our solution will contribute to reducing school drops off, and we will adjust our approach if necessary.

Annual reports will be shared with the donors.

Thank you for your contribution; we are happy to provide you with more details and certification of the amount donated for the tax deduction.
