Support for Scotty

On  Friday, April 28th, 2017 Scott (“Scotty”) Belliveau received the devestating news that he has rectal cancer. While this fight has been ongoing since being diagnosed, Scott has been staying as positive as possible and is fighting every day to kick cancers ass. Through his analytical and positive thinking, he is conquering every step thus far.
After initial diagnosis Scott had to undergo many tests and meet with numerous doctors and specialists. For anyone the experience is never easy however, the professionalism and compassion of the doctors and nurses involved helped in making the days ahead easier to deal with. In early May a team of doctors met to come up with a “plan of action”. First and foremost was to determine if the cancer had spread anywhere else in his body. By mid-May it was confirmed that he had stage 3 rectal cancer and it was contained in the colon and had not spread. Our first bit of positive news!! Now, the team could proceed with planning. There were numerous appointments set up with these individuals ensuring Scott would have the best care possible for his journey ahead. Appointments were made, medical oncologist, surgeon, and radiation doctor. By the middle of May, Scott and Candice had met with all the doctors that would make up Scott’s medical team.
On Monday, May 29th, Scott began a 28 day cycle of both radiation and chemo in hopes to shrink the tumor before surgery. After six weeks of extremely uncomfortable and pain filled days, Scott finished the treatments. During this time, as weak as he was, fighting through overwhelming fatigue, intense pain and sleepless nights he continued to work and provide for his family. This was something that was not going to break him or the values which Scott lives by. During this time, became the creation of Scott’s motivational slogan, #fuckcancer. Everyone that knows Scott
knows that he is a very determined, hard-working man that would move heaven and earth for his family. The out pouring of messages from family and friends during his treatments was overwhelming. Through texts, phone calls, Instagram and the “Support for Scotty” Facebook page he has received prayers, well wishes, messages of love and support. This helped him immensely in his fight and he continues to get this support daily. So you ask, how does one distract themselves from trying not to think about this disease? Well through his amazing family, both immediate and extended and through his lifelong friends, keeping him busy with family outings or being one with the road on his motorcycle.
Where are we now?
Scott has completed the second round of tests and the tumor has shrunk dramatically which is amazing news. However, he still requires surgery to remove his rectum. The surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, September 12th. This will consist of a 6 hour procedure and at least a 4-5 day stay in the hospital. Recovery period will be approximately 1 month with an additional 4 months of chemo after that to ensure the cancer will be fully gone and does not return to other parts of the body.
As you are all aware, Scott is a very accomplished self-employed painter and he will be unable to work for at least 6 months post-surgery. This will drastically affect his family finances. Not only for the day to day bills but also for unforeseeable expenses during his recovery period.
All of your gracious donations will be used to offset these lost wages and allow Scott and his family to focus on healing and beating this horrible disease.

Thank you for supporting Scotty!! #fuckcancer

A very close friend of Scotts published an article in Vibe Magazine https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/nee4wb/bloody-shits-and-shitloads-of-weed-what-its-like-having-ass-cancer to read details of the journey he has taken thus far.
