Q & K's Scholarship Banquet

Hello, My name is Rita Hamilton, CEO of Queens & Kings Among Us Foundation and I'm fundraising for my 1st Annual Scholarship Banquet on April 21, 2024. Q & K is a nonprofit and we provide free prom attire to high school seniors who are in foster care system (CPS) or experiencing hardship. The chosen candidates are royally served on our "Royal Fitting Day." Also, this year we are supporting them by rewarding them with scholarships as well as supporting three nominated teachers. We are asking for monetary donations to support this cause. Your donations are greatly appreciated.

My story at a glance, I have such a caring spirit and love for children/youth and those facing hard financial situations. Even though I grew up in poverty, I always knew I wanted to branch out into other areas and see what else the world had to offer.

I became a foster parent in 1996 in the state of Nevada. There, I opened my therapeutic foster home to many children with diverse backgrounds.  In 2004, I moved back to Houston, Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Theology. In 2020, I was named Foster Parent of the Month and has been with her current agency for over 12 years. My heart states, “I love and always have loved kids.” When my mom passed away, I moved to Reno, and that’s when I found my purpose in life.  I'm blessed with a 24 yr old daughter, grandson, and my special gift of a 7 year old daughter. 

Sharing a person’s “back story” helps you understand the reason they are doing what they do to assist others and what drives their passion.  I also have a love for helping our veterans. I reflect on my father as a veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Sadly, he passed about 9 years ago.

Through the years, I had worked with many different kids who dealt with childhood trauma, emotional and physical abuse.  With my therapeutic experience, I helped them to cope with life's uncontrollable challenges. My advice to them, “There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. Find and listen to that inner voice that will help you make it through. Find that positive energy around you whether it’s a teacher, someone from your church or someone in the neighborhood because sometimes it is not your family that helps you through."
