Brett's recovery

Brett Deiser, a hardworking and devoted stepdad, turned sixty last July. He loves gardening and tinkering but has little time for either one. His job takes him from home six days a week, and during those six days, he stays in a small camper. He comes home in the early morning hours of Sunday and leaves again the next day.

Recently, while Brett was mowing the lawn, he experienced chest pains and shortness of breath. His wife rushed him to the emergency room, and that evening he was taken by ambulance from North Arkansas Medical Center to the hospital in Branson, MO. The angioplasty procedure there revealed blockages in his arteries and veins that were too severe to be relieved with a stent. He was then taken by ambulance to Cox South in Springfield, MO where he underwent quadruple bypass surgery. The surgery was successful, and Brett is recovering well.

But Brett has high blood pressure and is on insulin to control his diabetes. Although he has insurance through his job, while he’s off work that insurance must be paid out of pocket. His medicine is costly. As of June 13, he’s been off work for a month and has six more weeks of recovery before he can return. He and his wife, stretched to their financial limit already, are now faced with paying three hospitals, two ambulance rides, numerous doctors/surgeons, six days in the hospital, cardiac rehab/follow-up, and a home health nurse. The mortgage, utilities, insurance, etc. still must be paid.
