Flight Attendants are like chameleons: instead of changing colors in social signaling and in reactions to temperature and other conditions, stews change professions. Yes, flight crew can quickly change from bartender to plumber, from nurse to babysitter (sometimes adult-sitter) and even counselor to firefighter. But, to a boxer?
Who knew, though, that on a usual flight from Tel Aviv home to New York City’s JFK International Airport, Delta Flight Attendant Simone Arellano would be sucker punched while in her role as Purser? And, all over a phone a female passenger refused to turn off. The story of how it escalated is interesting but not all that relevant to Simone’s recovery.
A somewhat necessary electronic device designed to keep folks in communication – a phone – has now lead to memory loss, horrible headaches, confusion and other physical disabilities. No Flight Attendant should be hit, much less disabled by a passengers idiocy. Simone is our Purser and we’re her crew!
