Purple Day - Burpees for Epilepsy

Saturday, March 26, is Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness.

Summit Lifestyle & Performance/CrossFit Banff is putting on a fundraiser to help raise awareness around Epilepsy as this is a cause close to our hearts.

For those of you who don't know, our close friends and long-time members of the gym, Brooke & Rob Wilson's son Jack was born with Epilepsy. At the tender age of 8 years old, Jack has already undergone three major surgeries and has been through a lot. Since his surgeries, he has become more disabled in hopes of living seizure-free.

We have seen firsthand the effect that Epilepsy has on not only the person living with it, but also those close to them. This is why we have chosen to put on this fundraiser in order to help the Wilsons raise awareness around this neurological disorder that affects 1 in 26 people. Currently, there are 65 million people around the world who have Epilepsy.

The Wilson's have chosen to donate all proceeds to Rocky Mountain Adaptive. RMA is a registered charity based in Canmore, AB who provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate, learn and excel at mountain sport and recreation.

Since we are a gym, we thought the best way to promote this cause would be through fitness. That is why coaches/owners Mathieu Lavigne and Ashleigh Baker will be doing a burpee for every dollar raised. If you want to see your two favorite gym owners suffer a little (or a lot) and help a good cause, you can do this by donating here. We will be performing the burpees in the gym on Saturday, March 26th from 8 AM onwards until all reps are complete. Feel free to stop by throughout the day to cheer us on or even join in on the fun! We will be wearing purple shirts in support of Purple Day and encourage you all to do the same.
