Pull Back the Curtain Podcast

Pull Back the Curtain: A Philly Theatre Podcast is my senior project. I am a current student at Drexel University studying Entertainment and Arts Management with a concentration in theatre. I have spent the last four years interning in and learning from the Philadelphia theatre community and wanted to base my senior project around this amazing community.

In all, the podcast is a series of talks with 14 Philadelphia artists of varying backgrounds (I have a Stage Manager of 30+ years, as well as a recent Arden Apprentice!). I asked artists of various occupations (management, artistic, and production) and backgrounds that were of marginalized genders (i.e. women, non-binary, trans, etc.) to be on this podcast. My mission is to inform the next generation of theatre managers, using the experiences and voices of marginalized genders, about the gaps in our workplaces and how we can use these experiences to solve them.

But none of that means anything without these artists. This campaign is to compensate these 13 artists for their time and energy in being involved with my senior project. The goal is about $50 per artist, to be distributed along with the podcast in the spring. During the COVID-19 pandemic, theatre artists have affected greatly because we cannot gather together live. The arts and culture sector brings more than $877,000,000 to the U.S. economy and theatre is a large part of that. If there is money raised over my goal amount, it will go toward the fees for the podcasting host service and marketing.

Artists deserve to be paid for their work - especially now. Please consider donating to compensate artists for their time, especially in their effort to help in an educational podcast that speaks to change in our workplace.

All donors will be thanked at the end of one episode and donors above $50 will be highlighted every episode. Follow along on Instagram @pullbackthecurtainpod and listen anywhere you get your podcasts starting in mid-February!

Thank you so much for your support and until we can gather again,
