Puerto Rico- Children's Shelter Aide
I recently delivered much needed supplies to Hogar De Niños Andres, an abused boy's shelter in the Puerto Rican city of Bayamon. This shelter was already in great need, because they are an independently run organization. An amazing woman by the name of Emma runs every bit of the home, using her own resources, and even opening her own home when one of the boys "aged out" at 13. They are fighting to change that, but for now this is a big problem. The other big problem is the conditions they are now facing, in the wake of Hurricane Maria... No power, or running water, and limited supplies. They are existing on a small generator, water cistern and the kindness of those who have donated. I took supplies down, and my cousin and 2 fabulous women also helped to bring in more. But, these supplies won't last forever, and with the current conditions in PR, who knows when they will recieve the help they so desperately need. These beautiful little souls have already experienced such horrific things in their short lives. We really want to bring some much needed joy and light to them. This is why I am starting a fund to raise money to buy them more supplies, and some toys, just in time for the Holidays. I'm heading back down mext month and hope to buy them each a Christmas present. They are such an inspiration and deserve to be kids.. Especially after all they've been through. Every bit helps right now.. This organization is also a 501(c) Non-Profit, so your donations will be tax deductible... And, will most certainly be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
