Help Redding's Parent Teacher Club cross the finish line and reach our fundraising goal!
Redding is an excellent Tenderloin public school reflecting our neighborhood in the best possible way. It's one of the most diverse and meaningfully integrated schools in San Francisco. Our families speak 25 different languages and we work to translate communication into English, Spanish and Arabic, the most commonly spoken languages in our school community.
We serve 255 students who are:
81.2% low income
50.6% English Language Learners
7.5% Students with Disabilities
11.2% Families in Transition (Homeless)
0.4% Foster Youth
10% African American
26% Asian
28% Hispanic or Latino
18% Arab/Middle Eastern
3% Two or more racial/ethnic identities
1% Native American
6% Filipino
1% Pacific Islander
3% White (non-Hispanic)
Redding has a diverse and active group of parent leaders - about 30 parents regularly participate in our Parent Teacher Club (PTC) meetings - but we are not a wealthy school. It’s taken our PTC several years to raise close to $20,000 for school needs. In comparison, some SFUSD school PTAs raise $500,000/year and fund teacher positions.
The Redding PTC is urgently raising $10,000 in the wake of budget cuts to meet the urgent needs of our students, which includes maintaining literacy support, computer teachers and preventing split classrooms. Beyond meeting these basic needs, our wish list includes expand our arts programming and greening our school yard. We have dreams of updating our classroom computers, and updating our classrooms and library with diverse books which provide mirrors and windows to our diverse students. One of the most important academic goals for Redding is increasing literacy for our students. We’d love to grow the supports for our school by adding or expanding our staff with a literacy coach, full time nurse, parent liaison, school secretary support, and/or more yard monitors.
