Cuddle Cot for Erick Genge Memorial

The loss of a child is something that none of us ever hope to experience first hand. Unfortunatly about 1 in 160 pregnancies end in a still birth. My best friend Brandi and her husband Jeff are that 1. On Friday February 5th Brandi went into labor. She was due to be induced the following Wednesday at 37 weeks gestation so the idea of labor starting was not a surprise. Brandi and her husband went to the hospital thinking they were on their way to deliver their first born. When they arrived though the nurses could no longer find a heartbeat. It was determined that their precious baby's heart had stopped beating. At 12:44 am on February 6th, Brandi gave birth to a beautiful angel. Frederick William Genge weighed 6lb 1.2oz and was 19.5 inches long. Erick had dark hair and a handsome little face.
Brandi and Jeff were told that they could spend as long as they wanted with their little boy. They had him with them until the evening on the 6th, taking photos and allowing family members to hold him. Unfortunatly they had to let him go and say their last good byes since the natural processes that start after death had begun.
OSF Saint Francis Medical Center did not have a Cuddle Cot available for use at the time Erick was born. A Cuddle Cot is a cooling pad that helps to regulate the baby's body temperature. With the use of a Cuddle Cot parents could potentially stay with their baby for up to three days. That is the only three days they will ever have with their baby. We are trying to raise money to have a Cuddle Cot donated to OSF so other parents can have the Gift of Time. With the help of the US Cuddle Cot Association we are hoping to have the Cuddle Cot dedicated to Erick.
