Without adequate personal protective equipment (PPE), the essential workers keeping our families fed, and our most vulnerable populations safe, are being put in a very dangerous position, merely by going to work every day. We are asking you to help at whatever level you are able, so that we can continue ensuring the health and well-being of those serving our communities.
Many on our team consider Detroit home, and it is being pummeled by COVID, making it the current epicenter of the outbreak, and threatening already vulnerable populations which are being disproportionately affected. We are teaming up with the Detroit Bus company’s efforts there to distribute help to essential workers and prevent community spread. https://thedetroitbus.com/. With so many efforts already working to get PPE to hospitals and healthcare professionals, we have identified and targeted other groups that are just as much in need, in order to be most effective in slowing the spread of COVID-19 in our country. Our primary focus is on sending FREE masks to the forgotten frontline: essential workers like grocery employees, police, and delivery drivers, nursing homes, poverty alleviation organizations, pharmacies, cancer clinics, dialysis centers, and COVID testing centers. We are aiming our efforts at groups who could become “superspreaders” should they contract the virus, in order to help contain it.
With control over every aspect of the supply chain, we are able to keep our costs to a minimum. Your donation covers everything from manufacturing to distribution. We are an entirely volunteer effort, working tirelessly to do our part, and help those most in need, during these unprecedented times.

We are a group of good samaritan volunteers with backgrounds in medicine, advocacy, data science, community organizing, and technology. We are based in every time zone of the United States, with volunteers based in the South, West, East, and Midwest regions. We’ve been working around the clock to get face masks to those who need them most. We have self-funded this effort so far, and now we are ready to scale up our operation with donations from you. 1. Are these masks compliant with FDA and CDC guidelines?
Yes! We have gone through testing and met health and safety requirements according to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). We also strictly adhere to guidelines provided by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). We work directly with the manufacturer to implement an improved design that is more protective and comfortable for healthcare providers who often wear these masks for long hours. These masks are made by an FDA-registered manufacturer in China. You can read more about our masks here .
2. Have you secured your supply chain?
Yes!! Because we anticipated this outbreak in December, the team was a few months ahead of everyone. We successfully secured an FDA-registered manufacturer who can mass produce masks in a short period of time. Working with our partner PPEforHCP , we have also figured out every part of the supply chain logistics - from raw material sourcing, manufacturing, shipping, clearing customs, and the last-mile delivery to the hands of our frontline healthcare workers.
3. Is my donation tax-exempt? Where does my money go?
Yes, your donation is tax-exempt. We have partnered up with Uprising Theatre , a 501(c)3 non-profit as a fiscal sponsor, making all donations tax-exempt. For every dollar we raise, 100% goes to manufacturing and shipping these masks to the frontline.
4. Who's receiving these masks?
Our top priority is to send masks to healthcare providers and essential workers in the most under-resourced communities. We also provide PPE to essential workers and community outreach programs to help contain this pandemic. Due to red tape in the existing system, it takes up to 20 weeks for a hospital system to distribute any precious masks they have to an individual healthcare worker. What's more, right now there's a bidding war between hospitals to buy any masks that are still available in the market, so better funded hospitals are the ones getting them. Under-resourced communities are hardest hit by COVID-19, and the hospitals that serve them are the most vulnerable - and we're here to help them.
5. How do we identify the locations and greatest risk?
We are starting with a team of five vetted Local Experts who are identifying the areas in their community that has the most need of our provisional FDA-approved masks. Our team also identifies locations through clinical entries, doctor organizations, research papers, public databases, and direct requests.
