Providencia Island Relief

Donation protected
Early morning Monday, November 16, 2020 a Category 5 hurricane with winds up to 160 mph decimated the beautiful island of Providencia, Colombia.  Ninety Eight percent of the tiny Island’s six ½ square miles infrastructure was destroyed. The gale-force winds ripped homes to shreds, uprooted trees, and brought down power lines. Even now, most people remaining on the Island do not have sufficientshelter, power, food, or clothing.

Juancho was born and raised on Providencia Island.  Although he has been living in the United States since 2001, Providencia is his home. Juancho’s brother passed in early October, so he went home to be with his family.  He arrived in San Andres Island (Sister Island, 50 miles away) on October 15, but because of the pandemic guideline, he was unable to go to Providencia Island until November 8th, not knowing another tragedy was to come. He had only been on Providencia Island for a week before the hurricane struck. Like many Islanders, Juancho and six of his family members sought shelter in a bathroom for six hours. He and some of his family members were evacuated off the Island.  Juancho was not evacuated until late Thursday evening November 19th, being without his diabetes medication for over a week, since it had all been destroyed.  By the grace and mercy of God, eight of his family members are able to stay with his brother on San Andres Island in a two bedroom house, others are staying with other family or friends, like many other residents.

Juancho is so very thankful to God for keeping his family, as we so often say “from all hurt harm and danger” and savinghis family’s life.  His deceased brother and two of his sister’shomes along with the contents were either completely destroyed or at least 80% destroyed by the winds and continuous rains.  Mostly all roofs of the homes on the Island were blown off during the hurricane.

This is where we need your help. Your financial contributions through GoFundMe of any amount will be very much appreciated and will certainly make a huge difference.  Will you help Juancho’s family get back on their feet? Our goal is to raise $25,000.  If you are not comfortable with giving through GoFundMe, you may call or inbox me and I will provide you with another method of giving.   Thanks you in advance for your financial assistance.  Please continue to pray for the Hawkins family and the entire Island.
