Providence Vets to Ukraine

Dr. Laura Coffee, a seasoned disaster response veterinarian based in Washington DC, has partnered with Dr. Alex Bedford and her capable staff at Providence Veterinary Practice located in Virginia Beach, VA.

 

We have developed a sustainable supply delivery and transport program, which we will pilot at the end of June, 2022. Our goal is to provide a constant stream of veterinary medical services and supplies to our veterinary colleagues and shelters across Ukraine.  The companion animal crisis brought about by the Russian invasion rivals what we witnessed in 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  Veterinarians and staff are facing lost wages due to evacuations and bombings as well as increased patient load in the face of severe supply shortages.  Functioning shelters are at 10 times capacity, as others, including some initially abandoned, have been evacuated.

Our operational components remain in place in Poland and Ukraine, and we invite US veterinary practices with devoted staff to efficiently replicate this intervention. The cumulative goal of these serial aid trips is to offer significant respite to veterinary practices and shelters across Ukraine struggling amidst the Russian invasion.
