End of Monolingualism

We named our organization “End of Monolingualism” because we realized one of the biggest discriminations towards ethnic minorities is imposed monolingualism in a multilingual country and this has a direct impact on the lives of ethnic minorities globally.
Monolingual education in a multilingual country deprives the new generation of minorities of studying in their mother tongue.
With this, we put our mission to unite people and other organizations to do whatever we can to end imposed monolingualism in multilingual countries.

Introduction

Iran for example is a multicultural country and consists of people with different language groups. However, only the Persian/Farsi language is taught in Iranian schools, and children of Turks, Arabs, Baloch, Gilak, Turkmen, and other ethnic groups are deprived of the right to education in their mother tongue. This means that at least half of Iran's 85 million population are forced to be taught in a language other than their mother tongue, which has had detrimental effects on non-Persian children and ultimately on Iranian society. According to experts, the monolingual education of the non-Persian population has created serious problems in the process of socialization.
The right to education in one's mother tongue is one of the serious demands of non-Persian-speaking groups. That right in many international documents and treaties of human rights has been emphasized and defended. Nevertheless, not only has this right not been recognized by the Iranian government but it has also been opposed by large sections of the Persian-speaking community. The main problem is the lack of awareness of the Persian community about the existence of multiple education systems in different countries.

Our Mission

We believe stopping this process requires cooperation from all language groups, so we try to raise the level of public awareness about how multilingual education in different countries by providing information through the production of educational content and sharing the benefits of multilingual education, and introducing them to the advantages of multilingual education and the disadvantages of monolingual education.

Our first initiative is to create public awareness about the aforementioned issues by translating English articles into Persian and making educational videos and publishing them on Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, Twitter, site, etc.

Our next initiative will be to provide additional content in English and continue to advocate for the linguistic rights of all ethnic minorities in different countries as expand.
