Protect la Floreana Sanctuary from Chicken Farm

Hello everyone and welcome to our community,

La Floreana is a family project in Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Ecuador, born 23 years ago and established on 13 hectares of land previously used for cattle ranching. We have decided to revitalize this poor land and turn our small farm into a sanctuary of life and harmony with nature.




Little by little, through various designs and methods of organic farming and analogue forestry, we have established a space dedicated to the conservation and reproduction of species while achieving economic and ecological self-sustainability. 

Our land includes an Arboretum to preserve endangered species, a productive cocoa and coffee plot, a forest with more than 100 species of fruit trees, a wildlife conservation forest, and a vegetable garden. 

We are now a proud home to an immense variety of nature's wonders and a space where volunteers, tourists, indigenous communities, conservationists, and biologists from all over the world meet to connect with nature, exchange ideas and work together for a better world.

Our main objective is to demonstrate that living with dignity in nature is possible by harmonizing environmental conservation with human prosperity.

Today, we urgently need your support to safeguard our efforts against an illegal industrial chicken farm that poses a grave threat to our work, ecotourism project and the delicate balance of nature we cherish so much.

The Threat:

Today, we urgently need your support in our legal efforts against an illegal industrial chicken factory that threatens our work and the delicate balance of nature we cherish so much.

A couple of weeks ago, the construction of the chicken factory was finalized. The factory is located directly above the land of our project (less than 5 meters from our project, la Floreana and less than 200 meters from the indigenous community of the Sachllas). With this, the factory completely disregards its obligation to comply with environmental standards and spatial organization requirements. 

The construction of the farm has already caused great harm to the ecosystem through deforesting of the whole land, noise pollution and air contamination. Particularly worrying is the contamination of the waterways, which first run through the chicken factory, then through La Floreana and later into the Sachllas community. 

Now, we urgently need to take legal action before the farm starts to operate.

It is crucial to stop the farm now as the mass production of chickens will irreversibly harm the land, its wildlife, and all communities down the river.

Potential effects include air pollution, pests (flies), water pollution with hormones and antibiotics, light contamination and waste contamination. This can lead to a total collapse of the fragile surrounding ecosystem. Particularly concerning is that the river and land inhabit endangered species, including:

Mammals: Lontra longicaudis "otter".

Bird: Pteroglossus torquatus "arasari acorallado".

Fish: Pseudocurimata boehlkei

Need for Legal Action:

We have exhausted every peaceful resource to resolve this issue, from dialogues with the farm's owners to appeals to the local authorities. Unfortunately, these efforts led nowhere. Legal action is now our last recourse. 

We urgently need donations to finance our legal representation and the necessary legal processes to stop the illegal chicken factory. With your support, we can take these crucial steps to enforce environmental laws and regulations that will contain the destruction of our sanctuary.
