Protect our Healthcare Workers: Mask Support Fund

While it's easy these days to get caught up in the negativity surrounding this situation, there are so many positives to take from it that continue to give us hope. This crisis has forced us to think differently,  allowing us to better appreciate what we often take for granted, and giving us a reason to rekindle old relationships with friends, families and colleagues across the country. Hard times like these can help to bring communities together. 

Inspired by the power of our connections, what started as an initiative to help protect workers and first responders in my local DFW area has evolved into something broader and more meaningful — the desire to help out with donations all over the country. With your support, I'm excited to continue this work by providing much-needed supplies to healthcare workers and first responders on a national level. It's my hope that through our support of one another, we can not only survive this, but become stronger, more caring, and more connected than ever before.

Let's work to get critical supplies to the healthcare workers in the DFW area that need them the most.

WHAT WE'RE FIGHTING:

The United States now has the most confirmed COVID-19 cases in the world. And the number of cases is still rising every day, putting strain on our healthcare system and causing a dire shortage of the supplies they need the most — medical masks, respirators and other personal protective equipment to keep them healthy while on the job. 

In New York City, where there are over 38 thousand confirmed cases as of 3/31/20, healthcare workers have been forced to reuse disposable masks and respirators, or even go without when treating COVID-19 patients, putting their health — and lives — at risk. And when our doctors, nurses and first responders are unable to work, it puts even more stress on our healthcare system that is already struggling to keep up with demand.

As a resident of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I've seen the impact of COVID-19 in New York and abroad and how a shortage of the proper supplies endangers the health of countless people working tirelessly to protect us, as well as those around them. With over 1,100 cases in the DFW area as of 3/31/20, we want to help our local hospitals, medical workers and frontline responders receive the masks they need to quell the virus in our area before it's too late. 

Help us protect our healthcare workers so that they can protect us. The time to act is now — It is our job to keep our neighbors and communities as healthy as possible in whatever way we can.

THE GOAL:

With your help, I'm committed to getting KN95 respirator masks to the hospitals, ERs, doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers in our local area that need them the most, with a portion also going to hospitals in the New York area who are in desperate need.

With $25,000, we'll be able to support healthcare workers with 12,000+ KN95 respirator masks.

100% of all donations will go toward the procurement and delivery of these necessary supplies.

It is my hope that with these masks, more doctors and nurses will stay healthy, which means more people are able to get the medical support they need during this time, and I need your help to make that happen.

WHY YOUR CONTRIBUTION MATTERS:

We've all seen the desperate state of the medical system in NYC, and how much of an impact it has when doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers don't have access to the proper equipment to protect themselves. Less people get the potentially-lifesaving care they need and the virus continues to spread.

Inspired by a friend in Miami who is working to get supplies to hospitals in their area, I realized that we as a community have the power and responsibility to help ensure our local healthcare workers are well-equipped to fight this virus — in turn keeping our families, friends and neighbors safe and healthy throughout this crisis.
