Peace Proscovia - Project Uganda Sport Kit

Donation protected
Help empower the children of Uganda through sport.

Sunshine Coast Lightning’s Peace Proscovia has spent the last 6 months spearheading a sports kit collection on the Sunshine Coast to send shoes, apparel and equipment to Uganda to be distributed to schools and families through the Uganda National Council of Sports. Due to the generosity of the Sunshine Coast community, her quest is very close to becoming a reality. 700kg of high quality sports gear has been donated and is ready to be transported to Uganda where it will have a life changing impact for young people!

Your help in supporting the transport costs from Sunshine Coast to Uganda will be greatly appreciated! These have been reliably quoted at $7,000 for pickup and delivery, with Peace's contacts collecting and distributing goods in Uganda tax free. Please donate by 6 December 2019. Every dollar donated will go directly to covering the cost of transporting sports equipment to Uganda for distribution. We will be posting photos of the sports gear being distributed to recipients in Uganda!

Peace's story

Like most Ugandan children, Peace grew up in poverty, her family struggling to meet their basic needs of food, clothing, proper shelter and education. A natural athlete, Peace developed an early passion for sport and spent many of her childhood hours playing all sorts of sports – mostly without the shoes and clothing that so many of us take for granted. As such, she bears many scars on her feet, legs and arms.

Peace’s talent in both sport and academics and her will to succeed has taken her on a great journey. She has three degrees and is now on her way to studying a PhD in Sports Marketing at USC. She has also become one of the world’s best netballers, inspiring all with her commitment and skill shooting goals for Sunshine Coast Lightning and captaining the Ugandan team. Read Peace's story at Athlete's Voice

Peace is very grateful for the generosity of the Sunshine Coast community and it's potential to improve the lives of the people of Uganda “This sporting equipment will change lives. It will provide hope to these children and make them see the world in a brighter way. The people in Uganda cannot afford even basic sports shoes and clothes and this will help them play sport, become healthier and lead better lives".

*Please note that this is not an official USC fundraising activity, rather it has been organised by USC High Performance Sport to support Peace Proscovia’s (Sunshine Coast Lightning player) Project Uganda Sport Kit initiative.
