If you’re like us, you have been devotedly following Cassie’s cancer journey along its winding road and looking for ways to support her. As you’ve no doubt marveled at, Cassie has marched ahead with unbelievable strength and determination, optimism, and humor -- with little time for complaints or self-pity.
Emily has been peppering Cassie with Atul Gawande prompts, questions like, “What are your goals for when time runs short?” Her answer is a testament to who she is and how she has been living her life. Experiences on your bucket list? Nah. Raise a bunch of money for fellow cancer warriors? Did it. Grudges to settle? Nada. Make up for past mistakes or wasted opportunities? Nope.
Cassie does have one, unmet wish remaining: to get back into her family's renovated house on Dean Street. This will give Cassie home-field advantage to fight on her home turf, within the walls of her dream home. This will also enable Cassie to prepare Nico’s nest and to set Angelo and Nico up for success.
This profoundly important wish requires all hands on deck to speed up the estimated move-in date. Both the construction contractors and Cassie's oncologists say this is doable. We want to make it a reality.
What an incredible opportunity for us to help Cassie, Angelo, and Nico receive some good news! To get Dean Street finished, we need to raise $50,000. This will enable the contractors to speed up the process and finish their work. (While they appreciate other offers, it is best to have their contractor managing this project). There will be more opportunities to offer special talents once move-in occurs, from unpacking to landscaping.
Most importantly, don’t worry if you cannot make a large donation- many hands make light work and every drop in the bucket counts. With their vast network, small donations will add up! Participation is key.
We know we will show up to make this happen. And if we know Cassie and how much she means to you, we suspect we will blow this goal out of the water. But don’t worry: if we do, all extra money raised that is not used for getting them back home will go to the Pan Mass Challenge in which Angelo is racing. So let’s get to it and build this house. And when we do, Cassie has promised us a big house party. With a keg. (Right, Cass? Don’t forget about the keg!)
This is an audacious goal and we need move quickly. We need to raise these funds by July 15 so that Cassie, Angelo, and Nico can move in this August. So let's get going. Project Nest -- it’s our gift to our beloved friend who has brought so much joy and fun to our lives.
