Professor José Loreto needs help

Donation protected

ENGLISH/SPANISH

We are the family of José Loreto, who’s been working tirelessly for almost 10 years as the  director of the education department of Venezuela’s Central University, and who before that, taught for almost 30 years Statistics and Quantitative Methods in the same University after having graduated from it. Though he has been helping students throughout his life to reach their goals and careers, it´s now him who needs a helping hand...

Since about a month ago, the professor started having strong headaches in conjunction with other symptoms such as progressive neuro-cognitive deterioration (short term amnesia), loss of balance, and difficulty speaking and swallowing. A few days ago, he was taken to the emergency room, and after doctors performed a CAT scan on him, they found the cause of his symptoms to be a subdural hematoma covering the entire right side of his brain. He was immediately taken to the operating room, where doctors performed an emergency craniotomy in which they drained 250cc’s of his blood.

Thankfully, he’s been recovering from the operation at a rate that has exceeded the doctors’ expectations as well as our own, his family. On the other hand, for his full recovery it’s necessary to secure post-op treatment, medical appointments, and special CT scans, among many other medical necessities due to the surgery having left José in a truly delicate state. The problem is these medical necessities exceed the financial capacities of the professor and of us.

Every day, it becomes more and more difficult to cover the medical costs needed for José’s recovery. This is due to the massive hyperinflation currently ravaging Venezuela, affecting us and many others, making even daily necessities hard to get, without mentioning medical necessities.

We sincerely need your help, be it economic, moral, or spiritual. Any donation is dearly welcomed, as it will be used to help our father and teacher recover. Lastly, we thank you even for just having taken the time to read this.

Best wishes,

Aracelis, Antonio, Silvio y Lorelis.

As some of you may know, GoFundMe is unable to send direct funds to Venezuela.  Carlos Lopez, a friend of the Loreto family for many years, who now lives in Canada, is providing us with the tools to run this GoFundMe campaign, as well as a method of transferring the donated funds to Venezuela so that they may reach José.

Aracelis, Antonio, Silvio y Lorelis.
