Support my first play on the stage!

Thanks for being here! I'm Ece Aydin - a Turkish theatre maker in Toronto with a play to produce! Last year, I wrote Fertility Slippers, a play that was selected for Decolonize Your Ears New Play Festival. With dramaturgical support and a staged reading/talk-back, I was able to develop the script further. And then, the stars aligned and I got into the Toronto Fringe! I'm very excited to assemble a team and finally bring this script to life. This will be a lot of firsts for me: the first time my writing goes on stage, my first time self-producing live theatre, and first time fundraising for a project of mine! As well, you don't really see Turkish stories on the stage - so this is an extra significant moment for me. The thing is it will be costly and all expenses will come out of my own pocket. While I'm self-producing and I don't expect a profit, I would like to avoid getting into much debt. That's a scary thing as a single mom, especially during this time. So I am asking for help from anyone willing and able to support me and this endeavour. Costs: I will be hiring 2 actors, a director, a sound designer, and some producing and stage management help. I will be renting studio space for rehearsals. As well, there are various admin and promo costs. Honestly, thank you for reading this far - I already feel your support! Here is a bit more about the story. It's heavily inspired by my Turkish background. The storyline and themes have to do with more universal human struggles like balance and tolerance. Blurb: A Turkish mother. Her first (and a half) generation daughter. A challenging situation. Just put on the damn slippers, canım, and everything will be fine! Maybe? Probably. Written by Ece Aydin and developed as part of the 2022 Decolonize Your Ears New Play Festival, Fertility Slippers is a poignant, dysfunctional comedy that attempts to heal the cultural and generational gap jeopardizing one of life’s most critical relationships. Still here? Call your mother. You never call unless you need money and she misses you. If you are able and willing, any amount will go a long way considering all the little expenses. Thank you so much for reading and considering. With love, Ece Please note: no raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or promotions are offered in exchange for any donations made to this GoFundMe
