Princess Hair Appeal

When I found out losing my hair was an inevitable outcome of the treatment I face I can't tell you how much I cried.  My eyes stung from the tears, my face mask sodden and even though I knew I had a responsibility to be strong and empower others I couldn't help feeling tiny!  After a double mastectomy and the thought of cycles of treatment ahead I can't say I was massively positive.  As a woman my hair has always been something that I have used to make myself feel more confident, feminine and just a boss...

I started thinking about all the wonderful amazing little people I know from my work with children with complex health issues, to my friends bundles of joy who rely on singing along to a hair swishing Elsa from Frozen or Tick Tock influencer teenagers...  Their hair is so important to them.  I started to think about all the children who have faced or are about to face the same or harder journeys than my own.  Not only getting through gruelling and painful tests and treatments but also losing parts of their identity in the process.  Just like me but not old enough to understand the benefits of these gruelling procedures in the long run.

I want to make a difference and I need your help.  I want to take our journey and help others along the way.  Lots of people ask us day to day how they can help me...  Well spreading the word about these charities and / or donating whatever you can is what you can do.

In February I'll be saying goodbye to my hair before it is unusable for this amazing cause.  I will be getting it shaved off for someone to use it through the Little Princess Trust.  This charity not only provides wigs for children going through cancer treatment and other illnesses that cause them to lose their hair but they also offer amazing support to families and fund vital research for cancer.  Through the fundraising pack it says it costs them £550 to make a wig for a child using the hair that I donate.  So that is the aim of what I want to raise through this fundraiser.

Anything remaining or if we happen to smash this target will be split with the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital which provides treatment, research and care our community can be proud of - now and always.  I KNOW they make a real difference to the children and young people in their care and work miracles for any little ones who might use wigs from the Little Princess Trust.  I know this seems ambitious but I've never been one to limit goals, especially as the two charities will benefit immensely in different ways.

Any fundraising efforts for RMCH focus on three key areas, namely treatment, research and care. These can include the purchase of specialist equipment to diagnose and provide treatment of our young patients more quickly and easily, creating as child-friendly an environment as possible and funding pioneering medical research to increase our understanding of children’s illnesses and the optimum way to treat them.

So sponsor me for becoming a true Burnley skinhead!  Give a few quid for the little girls and boys who are finding their way on the same road as me.  Just spread the word for these two incredible organizations.  If you don't want to donate through the page get in touch with one of us or if you want to be more involved with any fundraising we'd love to hear from you.

I don't want to keep this a secret anymore and I want to say very proudly 'This Is Me!' and help my mini heroes do the same.  Thank you everyone for all the love and support you have shown us and here is to making this an incredible fundraising effort.
