First off, HAPPY PRIDE MONTH everyone!

For those of you who don’t know, an unfortunate event occurred earlier this month where a group of individuals (allegedly students) burned a pride flag near Peel District School Board's Cawthra Park Secondary School. Their behavior was filmed and circulated on social media. This type of discrimination (and all types of hate-based discrimination) hurts our Mississauga neighbourhoods and communities. However, history has shown that members and allies of the 2SLGBTTQQIA+ community aren’t just resilient, but we fight back!

In response to this terribly hurtful incident, some community members organized a successful rally at the school on June 16/2021 to combat the systemic and overt discrimination that we unfortunately still see today. Photos from the rally are included in this go fund me page.

Together we are raising donations for the schools Queer-Student Alliance group and Queer-Student Alliance groups across the Peel District School Board. Let’s pull together get these schools new and improved 30-foot pride flags for next year!!!

We are so happy and grateful to say that we have reached our original goal of $1500 which will go to the Queer-Student Alliance (QSA) group at Cawthra Park Secondary School where the student group members will choose how they would like to spend the donations they receive. We are continuing to raise money past our goal, and all other funds raised will be shared with other QSA’s across the Peel District School board to show our support to rainbow youth at all schools in the Mississauga/Peel community.

As an alumni of Cawthra Park Secondary School I would like to thank Mrs. Kirby-McIntosh (Tosh), Mr. Ball, Ms. Riley, Mrs. Evans, Mr. Thoms and all of the other amazing teachers I’ve known to be true life savers at that school.
