Help Priceless Pets Animal Shelter

Donation protected
On December 1, 2012, my wife and I participated in a charity bike ride called Ride for Pets (http://www.active.com/cycling/chino-hills-ca/ride-for-pets-2012). There were approximately 45-50 riders that paid $40 with the understanding that a portion of the proceeds were to be donated to an animal shelter in Chino Hills called Priceless Pets (http://www.pricelesspetrescue.org/). The ride was put on by Alfie Sanchez and his organization, Majestic Cycling.

It came to our attention at another charity ride this past May 26th by the fundraising coordinator of Priceless Pets that Alfie Sanchez and Majestic Cycling never paid the money owed to Priceless Pets as a result of the donations given at the charity event on December 1. Priceless Pets had on numerous occasions tried to contact Alfie Sanchez and Majestic Cycling in the attempt to receive what was owed to them from the donations that were collected from the charity ride yet their calls went unanswered. Alfie Sanchez was served with papers from a lawyer to pay Priceless Pets by May 16, 2013 of which he has not done. After confronting Alfie Sanchez regarding this situation he admitted that he did not pay Priceless Pets and that he does owe them money, however, he cannot pay them the money because he spent it. According to Alfie Sanchez during a phone call with myself, he took all the money that was intended to go to Priceless Pets and put it toward developing a local bike race (Rosena Ranch Circuit Race) completely unrelated to the Priceless Pets fundraiser. He believed that there was nothing wrong with this because he was using the money to develop and promote his race, which he believes is beneficial to the cycling community. As participants in this event, my wife and I as members of the cycling community did not give our entry fee or extra donation to Alfie Sanchez and Majestic Cycling to develop and promote his bike race. We trusted him to give this money to Priceless Pets as advertised.

This is an unethical act that cannot go unnoticed and must be rectified. The cycling community has been tarnished as a result of the actions of Alfie Sanchez and Majestic Cycling. Being that this is not the first time there have been questionable business practices of Alfie Sanchez as a bike event promoter, we as a responsible cycling community cannot allow this type of behavior to persist.

My wife and I have decided that we would withdraw from the Rosena Ranch Circuit Race and instead hold a fundraiser to help Priceless Pets recoup the money that was promised to them. We calculate that at $40 an entry and 45-50 riders and giving Alfie Sanchez cost and half of the money collected that Alfie Sanchez and Majestic Cycling owe Priceless Pets approximately $450 and possibly up to $700. Since Alfie Sanchez kept all the details of how many riders signed up and how much money was collected from Priceless Pets, it is hard to determine exactly how much money is owed to them, however, we are confident that it is $450 at a minimum.

We are hoping that the cycling community will come together to help the shelter and the animals that were owed the money that was collected. We would also hope that you would seriously consider the actions and business practices of Alfie Sanchez in your decision to participate in any events that he and his organization puts on be it charity events or bike races, including the Rosena Ranch Circuit Race. I know that we will no longer support or race any of his events.

For however much money is raised through this fundraiser, 100% of ALL money will go to Priceless Pets and my wife and I will add an extra 20% over what is collected.

For all our cycling friends, lets show how our community can come together and put right what is wrong. Lets show everyone that the cycling community is made up of caring and morally ethical people and that the actions of one individual do not represent us as a whole. For our non-cycling friends, please consider helping out a local animal shelter that truly needs support for the animals they are entrusted with.
