Prevent Val from Being Evicted this Winter

Today while driving to an appointment I saw Val holding this sign. Whenever I see something like this I always make eye contact, smile, and provide water/food if I have it on me, but this was different. Val stuck out to me and something about him made me want to learn his story and help out in any way I could.
So, I texted his number and asked him if I could meet him and learn more about him. Even though I couldn’t help financially, maybe I could help get his message out there to people who can. He was on board with this 100% and loved the idea of more people hearing about him and his situation.
When I met him, I learned that Val Faria is a 75 year old man who is behind on his rent and at risk of being evicted from his residence of 12 years in New London. In his life he has worked a series of side jobs that helped keep him afloat until his age made it impossible to do the work that once supported him. Since losing a stable income, he has sold his lawn equipment to help pay his bills, but of course it isn’t enough.
He has been out here for hours on multiple days as a last resort to not losing his place of residence. He will gladly talk to anyone who wants to know more about him and he even put the effort into making his own flyers (pictured).
My goal is to help Val get caught up enough on his rent so that he doesn’t find himself homeless in the winter by getting his story out there to more people.
I’ve seen the tremendous power social media has and I just hope it works in his favor like so many others. I have no clue what I’m doing here, but I have his number and will pass along any assistance anyone is willing to provide.
