Preparing for the Fight
Donation protected
Right now, our family is preparing for a battle against cancer during the upcoming months.
On August 21, 2017, Shane was admitted into the hospital for a ruptured appendix. What we didn't expect was the doctor to return to us with the news that they found a rare form of cancer (which they wouldn't had found if his appendix didn't rupture).
The doctor diagnosed Shane with low grade - Stage 4 cancer. Although this is very scary and uncomfortable for all of us to hear and take in; the doctor's feel confident with Shane's health and find him to be an eligible candidate for this special operation at UCSD Moores Cancer Center in San Diego, CA. and believe this surgery will have a successful outcome.
During this time, Shane has traveled to Honolulu to do a PET scan and then traveled to San Diego for a consultation. Thanks to The American Cancer Society, his flight to San Diego was donated to him.
Shane will need to return to California on October 16, 2017 for surgery and will remain there until he recovers. However, this flight will be an out of pocket expense.
When Shane returns to Kauai, the doctor suggests he stay home from work for about six weeks. This will be a struggle for Shane, as he has always been the provider for our family. But for him to fully recover from the surgery, he needs to stay home and the only way he can do that is to mentally know his family and home will be okay.
The funds donated to Shane will take care of his flight to California and back home, medical bills and living expenses.
This battle will be strenuous for all of us emotionally, physically, and financially. Your prayers, love, and aloha are greatly appreciated.
