My name is Mia Edgerton, a Junior Biology major at Savannah State University (SSU) with a 3.8 G.P.A. I am pursuing the pre-med track and have shadowed Dr. Jerthitia Taylor Grate in Valdosta, GA. My goal is to be a medical researcher and to cure illness not just treat patients. However, I need your help achieve my goal.
The Atlantis Clinical Shadow Fellowship has given me a once in a lifetime opportunity to shadow some of the world’s best medical researchers and doctors in Italy the summer of 2019. This program is for the future innovators that will create healing medical care. The Atlantis Fellowship is a physician shadowing program for the most promising future physicians. I am humble and honored, especially being the only HBCU student was chosen to shadow doctors in various specialties for over sixty hours. My involvement in this nationwide program consists of conducting research and presenting my findings when upon return to the U.S. This is a study abroad program with costs that include a passport, program fees (housing, transport to and from hospital, group dinners), and plane tickets. In order to meet these financial obligations, I am pursuing scholarships and donations to offset the trip expenses.
It takes a village to raise a child, and hopefully, through my research, I will be a physician that can make a difference in the future of medicine. Faith without works is a dream not a plan. Therefore, I push myself and sacrifice to maintain my 3.8 G.P.A. so my opportunities can be endless in the field of medicine. The Atlantis Clinical Fellowship is a wonderful opportunity to further my education. Any monetary gifts will be greatly appreciated. I am trusting God, and know with him all things are possible!
