Most 4 week old babies celebrate by mom putting a sticker on their onesie to celebrate them being 4 weeks old. However, on November 27, 2016, four week old Luke was being transported by ambulance from Tahlequah to Tulsa. On November 28th, Luke went into surgery to have a tumor removed. On November 29th(Luke's Memaw's Birthday), his parents Kayla and Montana would find out the battle ahead was one only God could win as baby Luke has Rhabdomyosarcoma Cancer. They removed most of a tumor, but they couldn’t get it all.
Within the first week, Kayla and Montana learned their newborn son would be transported to The Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center in OKC. He was too fragile to transport all the way to St. Jude’s at this point.
So starting December 12, Luke will start an 8 month regimen of chemo. He will spend one week in the hospital and then two weeks at home -- and then one week in the hospital and then two weeks at home – and so on -- for the full 8 months.
As if that is not difficult enough, this means Kayla and Montana will need to leave their home and jobs in Tahlequah to be closer to their son. Kayla is still on maternity leave from her job as a “Job Coach and Medical Aid Assistant” at a group home. Montana is in the middle of EMR training preparing to become a firefighter; he plans to finish that by the end of December and then they will move to Tuttle where they can be by Kayla’s family and closer to the hospital where Luke will receive treatment.
Between having to quit their jobs, moving, eating at the hospital, gas money to and from the hospital and so on… the financial burden on this young family is more than anyone could manage alone.
We ask you to please pray for Luke, Kayla and Montana, and please consider what you can give to help ease the financial burden while they fight for their baby.
