Benito I. Granillo July 23, 1981 – January 18, 2018.

Benito Granillo, age 36, passed away on January 18, 2018 with his family by his side.  He was born in Salinas and grew up in Patterson.  He graduated from Patterson High School with the class of 1999.  He worked 17 years as an Electrician.  He ended his Electrician career as a journeymen before he succumbed to his illness. He served in the United States Air Force for 9.5 years from 2001 – 2010.  He was an Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran and was deployed to Saudi in 2003 and voluntarily deployed to Balad in 2009.  His career ended as Staff Sergeant, representing the Ammo Troop.

Benito and Jeana met and dated in high school. Benito reconnected with his soulmate after his second tour in 2010.  They got married a year later.  Benito was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia on April 12, 2013. His Leukemia was caused by exposure to toxins during his second deployment. His first son Nolan Granillo was born on September 11th 2013; we call him “Captain America Baby”.

On May 12th, 2014 Stanford called that they had found a match thanks to bethematch.org.  Benito started his treatment for a bone marrow transplant on July 20th 2014. From July 20-25 Benito underwent a severe radiation treatment and suffered quite a bit that first week.  On August 1st he received his stem cell transplant. On August 5th 2014 Benito was sent back to Stanford due to his body seriously suffering from the reaction to his new stem cells.

Fast forward to 2016.  His second son Logan Granillo was born January 5, 2016. “Miracle Baby”.  Since his transplant in 2014, Benito’s body has slowing been showing signs of Graft Versus Host Disease; which is when his body was rejecting his transplant. He succumbed to his illness on January 18, 2018 with his family by his side.

This page was made on behalf of Benito's wife and two children.  Thank you all for your love and support through this time.
