Pray and Fight with Bruce & Joanne

On December 17, 2016, Bruce and Joanne joined us and 3 other couples for a festive evening to celebrate Christmas and friendship. The evening was filled with food, drink, laughter and love. When we separated and exchanged I love you’s and Goodbyes, Bruce and Joanne returned to their car, only to be confronted by evil. Both Bruce and Joanne were robbed and shot in their stomachs. Bruce and Joanne received life threatening injuries and underwent emergency surgery. Thanks to a Heavenly Father who heals, Bruce and Joanne both survived. Although Joanne was released from the trauma unit of the hospital after 6 days, her injuries will impact her for the rest of her life. The bullet will never be able to be removed from her lower back as it is too close to her spine. She sustained serious injury to her intestines, and part of her spine was fractured. Joanne is home, but in a back brace for at least 4 months. Bruce’s emergency surgery consisted of repairing his bladder, stomach, and small and large intestines. He remained in trauma ICU for three days and was then placed in a room across from Joanne’s, only to return to ICU the following day due to significant breathing issues. After 2 more days in the ICU, he was finally back in his old room. Although Bruce is healing, he has still faced some bumps in the road.

Bruce and Joanne have three wonderful children, Amanda, 25, Austin, 21 and Anna Marie, 17. The family bond and love they have for each other has always been apparent. Bruce and Joanne have put two children through college and will soon say goodbye to Anna Marie when she begins college. Bruce and Joanne both work full time and are the most giving couple we know. They have always been there for their family and all of their friends. Once Joanne was physically able, she reached out to the three police officers who saved their lives to thank them in person. As usual, the Parker’s think of others first.

Now, the Parker’s are focused upon their family and their needs. Their kids, Amanda’s husband, Daniel, Bruce and Joanne’s parents, Bruce and Joanne’s brothers and sisters, Daniel’s family and their many, many friends pray incessantly for complete healing of their bodies and spirits.

We cannot even imagine what the future holds for Bruce and Joanne’s physical healing, as well as their spiritual healing. The financial burden will be immense. There will be lifelong physical repercussions from their senseless injuries. Bruce and Joanne will have to endure many medical procedures and doctor’s visits during their long road to recovery. The financial burden will be huge, even after Bruce and Joanne’s insurance has paid. Mounting medical bills will only cause anxiety and fear.

We created this page to relieve some of the financial burden from Bruce and Joanne. First and most importantly, we are asking for your prayers for Bruce and Joanne’s full recovery.
