To all my friends and family, I reach out to you, today not for myself but for my Mother and loving grandparents, whom have been devastated by hurricane Maria. The Island of Vieques which was known for its beautifully exotic beaches and picturesque landscape, has now been succumbed to rumble and despair. There is no running water, electricity and no jobs, since the Island sustained itself with revenue from tourist whom took haven on this once beautiful gem, that I once called home. There is no food, my friends, our crops have been ripped from their roots, the land can no longer quench its native’s appetite with its exotic fruits and vegetation.
Today, I am in Unknown territory and humbly ask for your help. My mom, who has worked her whole life, raised 3 children as a single mother, put herself through college, and I can honestly say is my hero, has lost everything. Her Home, which took her 10 years to build from countless hours of mixing cement with a shovel in one hand and unshaken determination, she suffered countless times from the aches and pains due to the physical work, but she continuously pushed through, year after year. Every Brick, Tile and accessory in her home has its own story, now just sadness and devastation lies. While the wind blew the structure concealed them, but the water was the ultimate enemy.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated in aiding and assisting my mother and grandparents living through this and begin to put their homes back together, I thank you all in advance.
