Sam Lucas' Road To Recovery
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
On 4 August our lives changed forever when our beautiful, funny, kind, loved and adored son and brother Sam was involved in a serious motorcycle accident which has left him in a coma with a severe traumatic brain injury. He is in ICU in Canberra Hospital.
Sam’s mother Sarah has flown from her home overseas to Australia to be with him. Sarah and her husband Kirk have been living overseas for nine years, but Sarah will now be staying in Canberra to be with Sam full-time throughout his recovery in hospital, and then later she will move to wherever he needs to go for his rehabilitation. She will not be able to work for at least several months, if not the next few years, depending on Sam’s progress. She will also have the cost of immediately re-locating from overseas back to Australia. At this stage, we are not sure of the cost of all of this, nor of Sam’s medical and rehabilitation expenses.
Our lives have been turned upside down. Our goal is to make sure Sarah can be with Sam every day to make sure he receives all the love and care he will need on this long, emotional and difficult journey. We don’t know when he will wake up. We don’t know what he will be like, or what he will or won’t be able to do. It is very likely he will need care for the rest of his life, but the amount of care he will need is unknown—it's too early to say.
We will be by Sam’s side every single day giving him all the love and help and care we possibly can.
We appreciate all the love and support we’ve had so far from all our friends and loved ones all over the world, and from the Canberra Motorcycle Community. Thank you, it means so much to us.
Any donations or contributions anyone can spare to help make this horrible time a little easier for Sam and for us will be very much appreciated. Love, Sam’s team.
