Encourage students in Puerto Rico
Donation protected
I'm raising money on behalf of students attending Rosa Costa Valdivieso School in Yabucoa, PR. These funds will be used to provide an awards ceremony and dinner to recognize students who maintained Honor Roll level achievement in the face of tremendous challenges in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
Yabucoa was the town on the island where Hurricane Maria made landfall just over a year ago and suffered tremendous damage, from which it is still recovering. The Rosa Costa school, in particular, was heavily damaged and took months to reopen, with the teachers and staff shouldering the costs of clean up on their own. And while the school is open, the facilities and grounds are still in disrepair, with only classrooms being functional, but none of the outdoor eating, gathering or recreational spaces. There are no large meeting spaces on site to host events or gatherings.
Despite enduring considerable hardship, the students and teachers at Rosa Costa school persevered and carried on as best they could with their studies under very difficult conditions. This award ceremony and dinner is intended to be a way to give something positive and affirming to those students who maintained academic achievement in the face of tremendously challenging and discouraging circumstances. The goal is to have all expenses for the event met so that it will be free for students and their families to take part.
The expenses are as follows:
Off-site location rental, food and music-- $2050.00
Picture print of each student recipient--$140.00
Group framed picture print for school-- $139.98
Note: The Lion's club of Harvard, MA has generously committed to providing the additional funds needed ($300) to cover the costs of medals for each student (70 in total)
Each and every donation received will go directly to the school and will be used to cover the cost of this event only.
The target date for the event is October 26, 2018.
All donations must be received by Friday, October 12, 2018.
Thank you for helping to bring hope and encouragement the students of Rosa Costa Valdivieso School in Yabucoa, PR.
